In many of Sandro Vadim’s paintings, one can observe that something has been painted over a gesture that signals revision: the complete or partial retraction and reformulation of what was previously expressed. Yet, Sandro Vadim’s painting is anything but tentative or hesitant. The clarity of his brushwork and the resolute intensity of his colors stand in direct contrast to such an interpretation. These works seem to center on the negation of what has already been achieved as a necessary condition for self-enhancement and self-surpassing. This ongoing act of discovery may only be called “searching” because what is found appears, in turn, to urge onward toward ever new departures.
