Frank Haase studied Industrial Design at BUGH Wuppertal and received his artistic foundation through the two-time Documenta participant Anna Oppermann and sculptor Hagen Hilderhof. After completing his studies, he co-founded the design studio Taurus Design with a fellow student. Between 1993 and 2003, he worked there as managing partner and oversaw more than two hundred design projects. During this time, Frank Haase received numerous national and international design and innovation awards, including multiple Red Dot Awards and the Design Prize of North Rhine-Westphalia. His works were exhibited at international design exhibitions in Japan, South Korea, Singapore, and Germany. Since 2004, Frank Haase has primarily worked as a painter and sculptor. Several large sculptures for public spaces have been realized, and his artworks are housed in churches in Westphalia and the Rhineland. His QR-Art connects physical artworks with digital content on the internet through artistically altered QR codes in the form of images or sculptures. In painting, Haase focuses on landscape excerpts and portraits. Both acrylic and oil paints are used in his works. The connection between art and design is always evident in his works. The meticulous planning and conception of his projects, the structured approach in their creation, and the sometimes craft-precise execution are skills he developed during his training and work as a designer. Additionally, spontaneity and allowing for chance are aspects that resonate with his artistic soul. The allure of his works comes from the combination of these two different approaches—in a studio where tools such as drawing pens and brushes are as important as computers and construction software.
